Calgary developer builds condos that require no down payment

September 8, 2015 - Dan Van Leeuwen, president and chief executive officer of the Calgary-based development company New Urban, has been well aware of the housing affordability issues faced by residents of his city. In 2011, census data indicated that more than 35,000 households (8.1 per cent) in Calgary were facing financial hardship by spending 30 per cent or more of before-tax household income on shelter. Mr. Van Leeuwen understood that it would be impossible for his company alone to help all those with housing needs, but he had an idea that could provide assistance through a new homeownership strategy.  READ MORE

June 2014 - Instead of spending her marketing and advertising budget on buying another billboard, Vera Ilnyckyj, marketing director of New Urban Development, decided to do things a little differently. She planted some pear trees. With the help of some local Leaf Ninjas she is turning a parking lot into an edible forest and a space between two buildings into Calgary’s newest art gallery. Marriot International to build its first ClubSport hotel concept in Canada, Calgary

September 27, 2012 - Marriott International will open the company’s first Renaissance ClubSport hotel and fitness resort brand in Canada in Calgary’s Beltline district, just across the street from Stampede Park. The 160,000-square-foot, four-star hotel will consist of 200 rooms, a 60,000-square-foot fitness club and 55,000 square feet of retail space. Calgary developer New Urban facilitated the acquisition of the development site and it has signed a management agreement with Marriott to develop the hotel in the old Victoria Park neighbourhood.  READ MORE

Calgary developer New Urban announced today that it has facilitated the acquisition of a development site on the 300 Block of 12th Avenue SE in the community of Victoria Park. New Urban has signed a management agreement with U.S. based Marriott International, Inc. Calgary developer New Urban announced today that it will be renovating the vacant Park Seville building, at 239 - 12th Avenue SW, into a Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott.
